“Really not liking this one - somehow the cognac cask clashes with Hampden funk in an unpleasant way. Not often that this is the case but I cannot finish more than a few sips.”

“A 5yo Hampden finished in Cognac is a nice approach to this rum. High esters on the nose but mellowed out but the sweeter cognac finish. Taste is warm and not as intense as the nose but very flavourful giving an enjoyable finish which nicely lingers around with a strong peppery and salty taste. I do like a slightly sweet edge on a rum which is prob why I rated this higher than the 8yo but both are very good rums.”

“Raisiny and rubbery cask influence on the nose, which clashes at points with the esters. very pleasant nevertheless as the base distillate powers along through the palette, before finishing on the sticky prune and ascerbic end. Quaffable, and probably a good intro to Jamaican runs for the uninitiated. Truly excellent mixed with a coke. There, I said it.”
